Pocket Vacations

26169039_10211079596372599_6775302881647493717_nSometimes you need a vacation that isn’t even three days long and is filled with coffee. I call these “Pocket Vacations” because they’re so small they can fit in your poc- I take that back. I’m so sorry for this. I regret everything I’ve ever said.

ANYWAYS. I had one of these recently in Atlanta, Georgia. One of my good friends from high school (are you as surprised as I am that I had friends in high school?) moved to the big GA last year and so far she’s loving it. I thought “hey I could use this human to see a new city without having to pay for housing” and so I slid in her DMS.

Okay jokes.  Continue reading

Lattes and Murders

21557532_10210178347961952_1736647627170701057_nThe abrupt scream of the steaming wand makes me jump and spin towards the door. Staring at the empty coffee shop in front of me, I curl my hands into fists, annoyed at my own anxiety.

“Sorry man,” the barista says.

I turn, offering him a half hearted smile. “Don’t worry about it. Just a bit jumpy, I guess.”

Dear students,

1933187_10208531934399922_4119089662507764177_oSchool just started. I know this isn’t news to you, and the reminder probably is making you grumble and roll your eyes. Just know that you’re waking up early and trudging to class for a reason. You may forget what that reason is, especially after a professor shows up with a pop quiz or tells you your first exam is next week, I mean come one, we just started. But try to remind yourself why you’re there. Whether it’s high school or college, you’re learning and you have this opportunity that so many people will never have.

Take advantage of the resources given to you. Used books, bus schedules, coffee. Drink that coffee.  Continue reading

Modest Midwest Adventure.

travel“Through the world in which I travel I am endlessly creating myself.” – I have no idea who said this, I just found it on pinterest (thank you, internet) and it has quickly become one of my favorite quotes.

For those of you who know, my first goal in life is to travel. To go somewhere I’ve never been, to meet people I wouldn’t have known if I had never gotten on that bus, drove that car, or boarded that plane. If I could travel for a living, I would. It’s my breath, lifeline, addiction.

My latest adventure was closer to home than previous ones, but still so valuable. Continue reading

Growing old is Necessary. Growing up is optional

1464016_10200992474480856_1176123781_nAs most of you know, I’ve developed a heart for traveling. The last six months I have lived in Texas, Hawaii, Amsterdam, Arkansas and visited Paris. Each place has its perks and disadvantages. Hawaii is gorgeous and the beach is a short walk away, but I’ve never been so miserable due to heat and humidity. If you enjoy the beach-Hawaii is amazing. Though personally, three months in and I was suffering island fever. GET ME OFF. Continue reading
